The Catalyst for Success in the 2010-2011 NFL Season.

The Colts were the first team in the National Football League to have cheerleaders. What more can you ask for? Ok, they’re also the first team, since 1998, in NFL history to win twelve or more games in seven consecutive seasons. CEO and President Jim Irsay is doing a fine job developing the Indianapolis Colts into a historic championship NFL team. President Bill Polian and General Manager Chris Polian have also contributed to the Colts great success.


Quarterback Payton Manning was drafted in 1998, as the first overall pick by Indianapolis. Payton holds the NFL record for most consecutive seasons passing for over 4,000 yards. He also holds the NFL record for the most seasons passing over 4,000 yards. In 2009, Fox Sports named Payton Manning “The Player of the Decade”.  He has definitely lived up to his billing.


When Anthony Kevin Dungy became the Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2002, things finally turned around for the franchise. Dungy believed it was not necessary to scream at players or put them down. When things went bad on the field, Dungy remained calm; because he believed he was a teacher, not a tyrant. He was a master of the Cover 2 Zone Defense. Tony Dungy set the NFL record for most playoff appearances by a Head Coach. He also led the Indianapolis Colts to a victory in Super Bowl XLI. Dungy was the first African American Head Coach to win a Super Bowl. His contributions have had an enormous effect on the diversity of the NFL; which lead to the establishment of the Rooney Rule by the Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney. This Rule requires NFL teams to interview all coaches, no matter what their diversity. His success has also led to the hiring of defensive focused NFL Head Coaches.


On January 12, 2009, Tony Dungy retired as Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Jim Caldwell, who was mentored by Dungy, took over the leadership of the team. He also led the Colts to the Super Bowl, but was not as fortunate as Dungy. The Colts were defeated in Super Bowl XLIV by the New Orleans Saints. I believe this defeat will be the catalyst for the Indianapolis Colts success this season.


The Colts will open the NFL 2010-2011 football season against the Houston Texans in Texas on Sunday September 12th at 1:00 pm and the game will be broadcast on CBS. These teams have been rivals since 2002, when the Texans joined the NFL as an expansion team; because the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Titans. This game is always a hard fought reunion. The Texans have only won against Indianapolis once since they joined the NFL. That’s once in eight years.


Strong Safety Robert Sanders(#21) is back and he is healthy. You know how people use Google to get stuff off the internet, well the Colts use Sanders to get the football off the field. And just like Google, Sanders usually gets the football off the field. The Indianapolis Colts are strong this year. Payton Manning(#18) and Wide Receivers Anthony Gonzalez(#11) and Reggie Wayne (#87) are in rare form. Along with Running Backs Joseph Addai(#29) and Donald Brown(#31), it should be difficult for the Colts defense. Expect a miracle on Sunday afternoon.  Looks like Indianapolis 21 and Houston 27.
